Sending an international wire

To send an international wire transfer, call us at 210-531-USAA (8722) that's 210-531-8722 . Outgoing international wire requests received Monday through Friday by 3:30 p.m. CT are generally processed on the same day but can take up to 15 days for the recipient to receive the funds. Our international wire offices are closed on weekends and federal holidays.

It's a way of moving money from one person or financial institution to another. It's generally used for large transactions, like a home purchase, or for transfers outside the U.S.

Are wire transfers secure?

Wire transfers provide a secure method to transfer funds between banks by using encryption and identity verification of both the sender and recipient.

While the process is secure, if someone you don't know asks you to send or receive a wire transfer, we recommend that you decline such a request. If you accept the request, you may become an unknowing participant in illegal money laundering, or you may become the victim of fraud. Here are some tips to help keep you and your accounts safe:

Can I cancel or change an outgoing wire transfer after it's been sent?

Domestic wire transfer requests can only be canceled if we receive your request before we send the money. If the money has already been sent, we can attempt to recall a wire but can't guarantee that the request will be honored by the recipient's bank.

An international wire transfer can be canceled up to 30 minutes after you authorize it. To cancel, call us at 210-531-USAA (8722) that's 210-531-8722 or 800-531-USAA (8722) that's 800-531-8722 .

What if my wire was returned? Can I set up recurring wire transfers?

No, USAA does not offer recurring wires. However, recipients can be saved to make future wires easier to send.

How do I check my wire transfer activity?

Track outgoing and incoming transfer activity and view pending, completed and canceled transfers using the Wire Transfer Activity page.

What should I do if the recipient didn't get my outgoing wire transfer?

Processing time for domestic wire transfers varies from bank to bank, but they generally take 1 to 2 days. International wire transfers can take up to 15 calendar days but may be received sooner.

Can you help me research an incoming wire transfer?

Unfortunately, we're unable to research incoming wire transfers. However, the person or financial institution that sent the wire should be able to track it.

How much do domestic and foreign banks charge to receive a wire transfer you send from your USAA account?

Additional fees can vary based on the receiving financial institution. It's best to contact them to see if there are additional fees expected.
