How to Solve Word Problems - When we are studying math, one of the hardest questions that make you nervous, and you began feeling helpless, are word problems. It is one of the hardest things to convert English words into mathematical operations. Usually, when you have an equation to solve, the operations involved in solving the equation is pretty simple. But to figure out what the equation is where the problem lies. But don't worry, we have listed for you a few steps that can help you in solving word problems. However, it is important to remember that to get the hang of solving problems is to practice, practice, and practice more! 1. The first step requires complete attention and for that, you need to read the whole problem thoroughly. Don't stop and solving midway. Carefully read the entire problem. 2. Next, you need to work in an organized manner. Figure out what things you have, what you don't and figure out which variable stands for which operation. 3. Start looking for keywords that help you determine which operation needs to be solved; addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Once you have figured out what needs to be done, all you have to do is start solving your problem! • Homework 1 - Jenny and Liza are two friends that work at the call center. Jenny earns $1,500 in a month. Liza earns $3,500 in a month. What is the difference between their salaries?
• Homework 2 - Miller and Moore are in the same office. Both of them live in the same direction away from the office. The distance from the office to Miller's house is 15 km and it is only 5 km from Moore's house to the office. How far does Miller live from Moore?
• Homework 3 - Smith and Brown are in the same shop. Both of them live in the same direction away from the shop. The distance from the shop to Smith's house is 20 km and it is only 2 km from Brown's house to the shop. How far does Smith live from Brown?
